Course Description Learn practical skills in U.S. accounting to acquire knowledge of basic to intermediate level accounting theories and to become familiar with accounting-related translation.

Course Objective (Goal) Be familiar with US accounting practices and become competent in translating accounting related documents.
 Learning Outcome Translate correctly, precisely, and comprehensively English accounting documents into Japanese by understanding and becoming familiar with terminology, word and idiom usage, writing style used in accounting papers, and accounting practices based on generally accepted accounting principles in the U.S. and Japan. Translate at a speed of 250 words per hour (source language).
Course Progression Read through the study guide for each lecture
Read the explanation in Japanese and then read the English text
After familiarizing yourself on the lecture topic, listen to the audio lecture.
Submit the assignment

The target of this course is to learn English to Japanese translation and vice versa. The assignments below are designed in accordance with this goal.
  1. Read and understand the explanation in Japanese each corresponding to the translated English text.
  2. Assignment 1: Translate the text from English to Japanese.
  3. Assignment 2: Translate the text back into English. You can refer back to the original text in English when translating.
  4. Self-evaluate the English to Japanese and Japanese to English work using the format below.
    I. Translation from English to Japanese
    - Which parts did you find difficult reading in English?
    What was the most difficult?
    - Which parts did you find difficult translating into Japanese?
    What was difficult the most?
    - Which technical terms did you find difficult?
    What was difficult the most?
    - Self-evaluate your English to Japanese translation work out of 100
    II. Translation from Japanese to English
    - Which parts were unclear or difficult to understand in your translated Japanese text?
    - Which parts did you find difficult translating into English?
    What was difficult the most?
    - Self-evaluate your Japanese to English translation work out of 100
    III: Time Used for Study
    - How much time did you spend on completing the assignment?
