Professor Profile:
Graduated from Tokyo University Faculty of Law in 1960. Served for Mitsubishi Rayon from 1960 to 1997. Worked in Overseas Department for 37 years in Mitsubishi Rayon. Experienced issuance of foreign bonds and loans in London, New York and Switzerland, merger and acquisition of US major companies, and incorporation and management of overseas subsidiaries. Involved directory in financial negotiations with Rothschilld , ABN, UBS, Citibank, etc. Has many acquaintances in securities companies such as Nomura, Nikko Securities and Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ Bank. Wrote many articles in finance and securities and articles on finance documents translation. Involved in distance education and training at Babel University Professional School of Translation since 2001.

How this course was developed

When Babel University Professional School of Translation founded International Paralegal and Legal Translation Major in 2003, the need of the knowledge of the International Transactions and Law was recognized that the graduate school students need it as the background knowledge. Professor Yoshihide Kawano (natively from Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd.), who had great deal of experience in international transaction law, was asked to develop the course by Babel University Professional School of Translation. He produced this lecture course in response to the request. This lecture course was registered in 2004 and was revised in 2008.

Course Objective

Have students learn the international transaction laws through treaties, model laws, and major countries laws.

Learning Outcome

Students who have successfully completed this course will be able to understand matters relating to international transaction laws.

Details of each lecture are described in the basic textbook. Japanese and English versions of the treaty, law, or regulation are written in the supplement.
