Professor Yoshiharu Ishida

Professor Profile:
Graduated from Kobe University Law Department, Bachelors of Law (1956). Attended Washington University (Seattle WA) Law School Summer Session (1977), Wisconsin University Law School Summer Program (1989), and Santa Clara University Law School Summer Program (1994).
Worked as an in-house legal counsel with Chori Co. Ltd., the 11th largest trading company for 20 years, and Japanese substitutes of F. Hoffman La Roche, a Swiss multinational pharmaceutical company, and Givandan, Roure, a Swiss perfume and fragrance company, for 20 years as a chief in-house legal counsel and a standing auditor. Vice Chairman of Japan Translation Association since 2004. Involved in education through correspondence of translators at Babel since 1990s. Dean and Professor of Babel University Professional School of Translation since 2000. Concurrently professor and head of the Career Development Department of LEC Tokyo Legal Mind University.
Instructor Fumi Fujinaga

Instructor Profile:
Graduated from Meiji University Literature Department Japanese Literature Major(1980). Worked at International Department of Jusco (Currently Eaon, second largest retail supermarket in Japan). Involved in joint ventures with overseas companies(1980-1989). Worked at Okeda Law Firm and currently Kitahara Partners as a paralegal. Lectured at Babel translation classroom since 1996. Involved in writing teaching materials of Babel University Professional School of Translation since 1999. Presently a professor of International Paralegal and Legal Translation Major of Babel University Professional School of Translation.
Course Summary Learn practical knowledge on starting up a translation business.
How this course was developed A translation specialist needs to also learn skills, such as registration and other legal procedures necessary in starting up a translation business or company. Students began requesting a course following the course translation business management that taught those skills necessary in starting up a new company. Babel University Professional School of Translation then asked Professor Yoshiharu Ishida to develop this course. Professor Ishida has numerous years of experience working for a large trading company and foreign affiliated firm as the legal affairs director, and has even started up a company. Professor Ishida currently teaches and is also the dean of Babel University Professional School of Translation's international paralegal and translation major department. This course was first offered in 2008, and was revised in 2011 in accordance with corporate law revisions.
Course Objective  Guide students in how best to establish a translation business.
Learning Outcome  Students who have successfully completed this course will be able to establish a translation business as a corporation.

There will be no final exam for this course.
Grades will be evaluated on the scores of the assignments from grades A to F.

Submission papers will be returned with the evaluation sheet, which states evaluation marking and comments as well as corrections with rubrics.
